Etude 4
Here it is. Finally I managed to get a copy of Maya 7, and I made the racing peach in it.
Well it works somehow.
But made a mistake and I applied the movement to the camera in Maya rather than Director, so won’t have the perfect control on it and if you leave it, continues the journey as it has key frames already.
I need a bit more of practice I guess.
As I said before Director does not render the long distances and they seem to be dark holes.
The reason I am insisting to use director is, because I can speak to it via serial port or maybe Arduino board and a potentiometer.
In that case, I can come up with a semi DIY game console controlling a 3D word on the screen.

Here we have a car in a virtual show room and you can see it from different sides. Basically I modeled the car in Maya and rendered each camera movement as JPG files, and then using flash added the buttons and directions to create an interactive show

As usual, Director-MX failed to import the footages when the amount of rendered images were too high and the next choice was flash. Thinking of doing it for first time with flash was a bit time consuming.
I probably will use this technique to create interactive animation stories and you will have the choice to choose the path in the narrative. Basically, you will be able to end the story in different ways.
There is an opportunity to employ it for some story boarded game jobs too as it gives you the chance to surf in a pre-rendered 3D word. The only thing you need to do is just to render all the camera movements of the game and aspects of it in a 3D modeling software to get the images and import it to flash. You will surly have some Photoshop work and some simple straightforward coding in flash.

Games, games and games; that’s what makes the life happier if you come and ask me. I always loved to make a game, especially just to defeat my friend who always makes joke out of it by saying “are you going to make Need For Speed?!!”
But I like designing it mostly rather than dealing with the interactivity.
I used the Director MX previously as my game engine, but it is kind of slow running one and cannot render long distance graphics. The reason not use it become perfect when Autodesk removed the .W3D file exporter from Maya after version 7. Now even if I decide to use director to navigate in a small 3D room made in Maya, it is not possible. If some one has got the way for it, I would like to hear it.
Later on I was introduced to Unity 3D. It is not a bad one but regarding to the pricing and crashes, it would not be my first choice if I new any other game engine working closely wit Maya.
I am not sure to be honest which one to blame, my machine or the software. During the time I spent with Unity I experienced dozens of crashes and if not it could take half a day to update my model from Maya.

For some reason I could not import my first game arena which was a 21st century city. It meant to be a city, which you could go around in the streets and have a look. Of course it wouldn’t be an advance version but I rally liked my imagination and picturing a modern city. It could be a hint to start a driving game. Like the one you just drive in the city by applying more game objects.

Unfortunately I realized it when the model was almost finished. The model was not accepted by Unity in any format. I tried .MA .MB and .FBX , so I had to come up with this funny landscape just to give a go to my new trail game engine and see how it basically works.
Well, it is not really hard to work with unity, but there are some tricks, you should know and won’t be gained unless you experience them yourself.
However, I call it a good start for a bigger experiment. I have some ideas to make my own computer game in the near future, but it is not certainly one person’s job.

I just wanted to experience the make of a 360degree of a place with no money; which means DIY.
What I did was I placed my Mac book on my rotating chair but if you head to make a professional one, I would suggest you to make one of these things.
I spin it only 30degree each time. So I will have some common track able points between two pictures next to each other.

It helps the camera to spin on the tripod smoothly as well as keeping it on the centre point at all the time.
I used the trail version of software called PTGui and it is an easy one for such a beginner like me. Any way it took me a while to figure out how to manipulate the images. This is the picture of the interface I took from my screen while doing it. The software arranges the images next to each other like a chain in such a strange shape. It also does the matching job some how but most of the times, it is not as intelligent that we think and I had to give a hint to track the pictures.

I actually could have spent a bit more time on it and normalize the colours but unfortunately I am experiencing a bad shortage in time due to my bad time management.
But apart from the entire hard job you may have, it is a good way of presenting a place over the Internet. I have seen some state agencies use it to show the properties on their website.
I am going to make some more from London on my spare time, if I have any, and send them to my friends back home.
Better than still images.

A great example of using VFX and SFX in cinema is 300. Here you have the link to the movies website which explains some aspects of the production process and of course if you listen to it, I’m sure it will be better my writing.

Check this website.
There is a lot of 360 scenes available to watch.
actually, the collection of the places is kind of interesting and some of of the really difficult to take photo.

If there you are interested in exploring the mixed media or better say SFX, I suggest you to have a look at the Vancouver Film School’s account on youtube.
It does worth.

Hello Mr. Word press. This meant to be my first post about 4 weeks ago.Anyway, Once again I can see myself struggling with codes and connections, trying to get two sides of the cable talk together. Well! I had to make myself to like it. I gave couple of research sessions to learn how leave with Arduino in the same room. And I can learn how to make an LED blinking by Arduino. But! Don’t take it wrong this little baby surely has more capabilities.
